The upcoming World Cup has been the discussion of many fans lately. But there is one fan that might have an edge in predicting the results. That’s because the fan is a cat named Achilles that also happens to be a psychic. The white cat lives in St. Petersburg’s Hermitage museum. It is known for being a psychic cat that can predict the outcome of the football matches. It is skill that will be useful in the upcoming World Cup Games in Russia in two weeks.
But Achilles also has the disadvantage of having big shoes to fill. The predecessor of the cat was an octopus named Paul who correctly predicted the outcome of the World Cup games and picked the winner for the 2010 World Cup. But Achilles has been training hard. He is one of the many cats that live at the Hermitage, which was once the imperial Winter Palace. So far, the cat has predicted the outcomes of the 2017 Confederations Cup.
Achilles is also deaf, which could be an advantage as he will not be easily distracted by the media when he makes his predictions. The cat makes his predictions by choosing between two bowls of food, each with a different flag representing a team in the World Cup.
“Achilles is now in his place of work, he is preparing for the World Cup and going through the adaptation process,” said veterinarian Anna Kondratieva said during a training session. “People tend to feed him more than they should. When he came to us he looked like a football, not a cat, so we decided to put him on a strict diet.”
