A shelter in Galesburg, Illinois is making sure that their dogs are as comfortable as they can be while staying with them. The shelter makes use of large comfortable chairs to make sure their dogs have somewhere to relax and chill. The no-kill shelter has been using old second hand arm chairs for their canine guests to curl up and nap in.
“The shelter pets absolutely love their chairs!” said the Knox County Humane Society on their social media page. “If anyone has any older chairs they no longer want, please think of the shelter pets!” The shelter is home to around 50 dogs and 50 cats at any one time. It currently has 22 chairs for the dogs that are up for adoption. The chairs are donated to the shelter by members of the community. The chairs are getting a second life as usable furniture instead of being thrown out or destroyed.
Since the video of the dogs and their big comfortable chairs was posted, the public has responded in a big way. Not only have they received more chairs from the local community, but they have also received several inquiries for pets to be adopted. With the new chairs, even more pet adoptions are expected in the future.
“We have had so many chairs donated this morning! Thank you everyone for sharing and donating! The shelter pets send many licks and purrs of thanks!” the shelter wrote in their social media page as an update.
