In the latest premiere of the newest Star Wars film, Carrie Fisher’s dog Gary made the red carpet in place of his late owner. Gary is beloved among these circles as he was often seen accompanying Fisher in interviews and movie premieres. Gary attended the movie premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
Gary attended the premiere dressed in a doggy X-Wing pilot costume. According to reports, he sat down watching the movie in the lap of Fisher’s personal assistant. Not only did Gary get to see his “mother” in the last film that she starred in, but he also got to see himself in the big screen, well, sort of. An alien version of Gary was placed in the film by director Rian Johnson. The alien pet had the same grey fur and the signature lolling tongue.
“The late Carrie Fisher’s dog Gary just watched The Last Jedi!” wrote reporter Veronica Miracle, “He sat on Fisher’s former assistant’s lap during the film. She said his ears perked up every time she was on screen!”
Carrie Fisher passed away in December of last year while traveling from London to California. She was on her book tour around Europe and on her way home. Star Wars cast members shared thoughts and prayers regarding the passing away of their costar. Fisher was recast as her most popular role, as Princess Leia, in the Star Wars franchise that started in 2015. Fisher will also star in the third and final movie of the franchise, Episode IX, which will be released in 2019.
