Cop Saves 10 Puppies Locked in Trunk

Police officer saves 10 puppies locked in a car trunk with no water or air-conditioning

Earlier this week, an Oregon State Police trooper stopped a car along the highway for suspicious activity. When he opened the back of the car he discovered 10 puppies that were locked in a truck without water or proper air conditioning. The car was coming from Southern California all the way to Seattle. If the trooper hadn’t rescued the puppies, who knows what would have happened to the puppies.

Officer Travis Peterson and the puppies he rescued

Oregon State Police Department Senior Trooper and K-9 handler Travis Peterson stopped a 2008 Ford Fusion after the vehicle was showing several signs of suspicious activity. Peterson stopped the car and inspected the trunk, that’s when he found the puppies. The dogs were taken into custody and the owner was cited for animal neglect. Not only were the puppies placed in the trunk, but they were all placed in a cramped pet carrier.

“OSP’s K-9 unit is not always about just finding illegal drugs, some days they get to save the lives of puppies,” the department wrote on their official Facebook account. The story has since spread and has gone viral. Several people have heavily criticized the owner for such dangerous and reckless behavior. Others have cited that the owner should have been brought up on animal cruelty charges. But there was consensus on the praise for Officer Peterson for his heroic actions.

All ten puppies were taken to the Jackson County Animal Services in Phoenix, Oregon. Hopefully these puppies will soon be adopted and taken into their permanent homes.
