Earlier this week, two dogs were reported missing in Puna, Hawaii. The dogs were missing for 10 days before they were found on Sunday surrounded by Lava. The dogs, named Brus and Little Dude, reportedly ran off while their owner Carol Hosley was evacuating their apartment due to volcano eruptions on the island. In the process of evacuation, she lost track of her dogs and reported them missing after failing to find them at the end of the day.
Hosley was helped by Aloha Ilio Rescue, a local animal shelter where he adopted the dogs from six months ago. Hosley was accompanied by Daylynn Kyles, the president of Aloha Ilio Dog Rescue and two other friends in looking for the missing dogs. Eventually they located the canines, surrounded by lava. Kyles and her friends even crawled through grass to the fence line just to get to the dogs. And it came with a price, because they were crawling so close to the ground, they were covered in red ant bites.
“We’ve been looking for him for 10 days, and we’ve just kept going back, and going back,” said Kyles “They were stuck behind a fence, and they couldn’t get out because the lava had surrounded them, it was crazy.” Hosley said that she was thrilled that her dogs were rescued and returned to her. Brus and Little Dude are currently staying with Aloha Ilio Rescue while Hosley looks for a place to stay during her evacuation.
“I just couldn’t be happier,” Hosley said. “The other stuff is stuff, but I got the dogs.”
