The city of Miami, Florida recently launched the inaugural Canine Film Festival. Miami will play host to a number of dog themed or dog friendly films during the weekend. The film festival is also a fundraising event that encourages movie buffs to sit back and enjoy submitted flicks of people and their dogs. Aside from these fan made films, there will also be a film showing on the best dog movies ever made. All of the screenings and events are open to all pets, especially dogs.
The Canine Film Festival will be held at the Cinepolis Coconut Grove and Hotel Indigo in Miami Lakes. The many festivities will take place in the nearby Cineplex and on the grounds of the grove and hotel. The first day of the festival starts off with a “Day at the Movies with your Dog” where people and their canine friends can enjoy a film screening at the theater. Other events that will take place in the festival includes silent auctions on dog related items, a dog costume contest, a canine fashion show, and an after party at the Hotel Indigo.
Admission to the Canine Festival ranges from $10 to $1000. Half of the proceeds from the tickets will directly go to the local animal rescue operations and to the local animal shelters. At the end of the festival there will be an awards ceremony to recognize the best dog films, the best dog viewers, and many other canine feats achieved during the festival, such as best dressed dog, and of course, best performance by a dog actor.
