Earlier this week, a pit bull was hailed as a hero for saving the lives of a mother and child after their home caught on fire in Stockton, California. The dog was a pit bull named Sasha. She and her owner Nana Chaichanhda were living in a house with Nana’s 7-month old daughter, when it caught on fire. Luckily, the actions of the dog saved the lives of Nana and her child.
It all began when Sasha uncharacteristically started barking like crazy one night. She even threw her entire weight into the back door to get the attention of her master. Chaichanhda knew that this was not like her dog, and so she followed the dog to where it was barking. That’s when she noticed that her cousin’s home next door was on fire and it was spreading to her house. Nana rushed inside to get her daughter out, but Sasha was already trying to drag the baby to safety by dragging it by its diapers.
“She had already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed,” said Chaichanhda, “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing?'” Within minutes, firefighters responded to the fire, but the flames already reached the attic. Thankfully, no one else was in the house and her cousin wasn’t at home at the time of the fire.
“I owe Sasha my life and my children’s,” Chaichanhda said. “She saved us all. She is our hero. Without her, we probably would’ve never made it out. Both our homes were condemned by the fire.”
