When Sammy the miniature horse arrived at the Carolina Equine Rescue and Assistance Center, she was so thin and emaciated that the owners of the center were encouraged to put him to sleep. But when the owner, Darlene Kindle, saw the horse, she knew she wasn’t ready to give up just yet. She saw something in the small horse, and she knew that there was still hope. She would get a lot of help from her golden retriever; Molly.
When the horse arrived, Molly was instantly taken to him and she made it her mission to be the best friend of the frail horse. According to Kindle, the golden retriever was “your typical Walmart greeter. She loves everyone including all the animals we have on the farm.” Sammy was a wreck when he first arrived. He could barely walk and was scared of everyone that came near. His was also very thin, and was described as “skin and bones”. He also needed to be de-wormed, bathed, groomed, and fed. But after a few days of being taken care of, he started to recover. And Sammy was a big part of that recovery.
According to Kindle, it is actually Molly’s job to help the animals get comfortable at the center. She is very good at her job and she cares about her charges. Molly likes to nuzzle with Sammy, and she often sits outside his stall with her head resting on him. It’s this kind of attention and caring that helped Sammy recover so quickly. The horse is now as healthy as ever, and he lost his comprehension with the other animals and people at the farm. Kindle wrote the story of Sammy and Molly on social media. The post has since gone viral and has gotten more than 400,000 views.
