The United States embassy in Australia had a lot to explain when it sent out a meeting invitation that had a picture of a cat dressed in blue pajamas. It was an invitation to a cat pajama party. The embassy, located in Canberra, accidentally sent out an email blast invitation with the title “meeting” to an unknown number of recipients.
The email had an attached photo of a cat wearing a costume as the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street and holding a plate of cookies. It seems that the picture was a suggestion of what people who were invited were to wear to the “cat pajama party”. It was unknown how the people who were invited were picked, but the embassy was quick to correct the email before there was any public reaction.
“Sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to attend this ‘cat pajama-jam’ party, but such an event falls well outside our area of expertise,” said Gavin Sundwall, the embassy spokesperson, to the Australian associated press. He also said that the mistake with sending out the email was a training error.
There have been a lot of hilarious reactions on social media about the email gaffe. The embassy in New Zealand thinks that the email was sent out by the cat in the photo. There were several others that expressed disappointment that they were not invited to the pajama party. The cat in the photo belongs to Jennifer Stewart of Melbourne. She dresses up her pet cats in onesies and posts them on her Instagram account.
