You Can Get Paid to Cuddle Cats on This Greek Island

Cat lovers are being offered the chance to live on a cat sanctuary on a Greek island.

In a small Greek island called Syros, they will actually pay people to cuddle with cats all day under the sun. The job was posted on Facebook by Joan Bowell, who heads the page for the organization called God’s Little People Cat Rescue. The candidate would take over a cat sanctuary found on Syros and they would be the caretaker of 55 cats. Aside from the position, they would also be given a free stay on the island.

The caretaker would be living in an island with just cats for company

“You’ll no doubt thrive best if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility — and rest comfortably in your own company,” reads the Facebook posting. “That said, you’ll never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you’ll be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house.”

The caretaker would also be in charge of feeding and medicating the 55 cats on the island

“From experience the job is most suitable for someone 45+ years of age, who’s responsible, reliable, honest, practically inclined — and really, with a heart of gold!” According to the post, the candidate should also be a trained vet nurse because the position requires feeding and medicating the cats that are on the island. Candidates should also be comfortable with handling feral cats. They should also be comfortable living alone on a nature reserve that may be busy during the summer.

Since she posted the position on social media, Bowell said that she received 3,000 applicants, mostly from the US and the UK. She said that she will be making her decision by the end of the month.
